"Oh my gosh there was so much that we loved! My son says his favorite part was learning about all the animals, in particular the monkeys." ~ Angie

Sabrina from my Courageous Homeschooling Facebook group recommends this All
About Rainforests book from The Thinking Tree for ages 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 & 12.
"The Great Kapok Tree story is really lovely and the accompanying lesson plan book is full of great activities ranging from math to English to art etc."
~ Samie, Courageous Homeschooling Facebook group
If you're in the US and looking for something for Grades 7-8, Fauzia from my Courageous Homeschooling Facebook group recommends this book to help learn about the geography, climate and animals. (Not an affiliate link).
This site has a fun and simple project where you create a simple bottle rainforest with a fern and some moss and add one of your children's favorite plastic rainforest animals.
If that project sounds exciting, we had great fun making a terrarium which is still thriving thirteen years later!
You can take a virtual field trip to the rainforest in this video: 1,000 Hours in the Jungle. It's fun watching the animals appear and disappear in a natural way.
Fauzia from my Courageous Homeschooling Facebook group recommends a UK charity called the Young People's Trust for the Environment for free lesson plans, ideas and factsheets.
Make a rainforest diorama based on our ocean diorama.
Although this sounds like something for younger children, older kids will be able to complete a much more sophisticated project. Also, dioramas can be fiddly!
I saw this done using a circular slot in the back of the shoe box to make a howler monkey swing through the trees. It's the same idea we used to make a pterosaur fly in kindergarten activities.
You can also find out how to make a terrarium for carnivorous plants!
"We made a diorama and found a colorful sticker printout sheet with the names of the animals. ( I didn't have any sticker paper so I just printed on copy paper, cut out and glued them on)." ~ Angie
Use some free clip art to liven up your projects or any writing you do. You can see examples of free clip art I've used on this page.
I find Pixabay is the best site for copyright free images. You'll find this lemur looking at you along with plenty of other rainforest images.
Have a go at this jumping frog. You'll see some people have found it a bit fiddly, but we tried it and managed O.K.
It helps to hear from the children who live there. Here are some stories from real children who live in the rainforest.

Rainforests aren't always as far away as you think! If you live in the US, Craig from my Courageous Homeschooling Facebook group suggests visiting Oregon. The State has a temperate rainforest in the Valley of the Giants.
UK-wise, our family really enjoyed visiting the Eden Project with the world's largest indoor rainforest biome.
And a homeschool family has this exciting news to share:
"We live in Malaysia so have lots of rainforest here. There is an organisation we regularly work with called MYCAT, a tiger charity that is working with the orang asli (people who live in the forest) to replant trees in areas that have been deforested for various reasons."
~ Lorna, Courageous Homeschooling Facebook support group
Lorna's children even interviewed a tiger biologist to find out about her job. Do watch their interview; the tiger biologist is so inspiring and you'll be pleased to know she decided what she wanted to do with her life when she was 10 years old:
Ideal for unschoolers and eclectic homeschoolers, this book is packed full of inexpensive and unusual homeschooling ideas, and covers every subject from Math to Science with learning activities which have taken my homeschool son all the way to Oxford University.
Homeschooling and worried you'll fail your child, especially as most of us aren't qualified teachers? With 50+ 4-5 star Amazon reviews for the first book, the third Courageous Homeschooling Handbook brings together 4,000 families to share the most successful teaching ideas for reading, writing and math along with help for autism, dyslexia and anxiety.
"I absolutely love this book, all the advice from so many different paths really help you create your own way homeschooling. A must-have for all homeschoolers new or seasoned. 5 stars just isn't enough."
~ Amazon 5-star review
I'm enjoying finding new ideas and setting up fun boards at Pinterest.
You can also join my Courageous Homeschooling Facebook group, which is a support group where we share the ups and downs of our homeschooling days and give each other encouragement and help.
We share resources we find useful, celebrate each other's Birthdays and we even have virtual coffee breaks!
